Natural Science Pre-Exam (NVP) / Dental Preliminary Examination
After at least two semesters of dentistry within basic studies at German universities, the natural science pre-exam takes place.
The NVP encompasses the following subjects:
III. Biology (Zoology)
Basic studies are finished with a dental preliminary examination after passing the NVP and five semesters of dentistry at a German university. This exam encompasses the following subjects:
III. Physiological Chemistry (Biochemistry),
IV. Prosthodontics (dental propadeutics).
The natural science pre-exam and the dental preliminary examination ordinarily take place from February 10 to April 30 and July 10 to October 31.
Registration for the exam in the first half of the year is possible till January 25, and till June 25 for the exam in the second half of the year.
Dental Examination (Staatsexamen)
Main studies are finished with a dental examination (final exam) after passing the dental preliminary examination and at least another five semesters of dental studies at a German university. This exam encompasses the following components (final exam subjects):
I. General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy
III. Hygiene, Medical Microbiology, and Healthcare
IV. Internal Medicine
V. Skin and Sexually Transmitted Diseases
VI. Otolaryngological Diseases
VII. Stomatological Diseases
IX. Restorative Dentistry
As of January 2013, the RWTH Aachen Central Examination Office is no longer responsible for organizing the state exams, NVP, preliminary exam, and the state exam. The Faculty of Medicine Dean of Studies Office will assume responsibility.
We have hired Mr. Schulz, former staff member of the RWTH Aachen Central Examination Office, to assume the organizational matters.
There are weekly office hours, Thursday 1 to 2pm, which take place in the Dean of Studies Office, Floor 2, between elevators 3 and 4, A-Hallways, Room 37. The room is Ms. Ruohomäki's office.
