BioTex – Biohybrid & Medical Textiles
The Department of Biohybrid & Medical Textiles (BioTex) is striving for bioengineering solutions for clinical needs by combining functional materials and biological components towards biohybrid systems. Herewith BioTex wants to make a significant contribution to progress in Regenerative Medicine.
In order to ensure sufficient strength and long-term stability of tissue-engineered implants, a textile reinforcing structure is introduced into the living tissue. The working group is constituted is highly interdisciplinary way including scientists from the fields of materials and engineering sciences, life sciences and medicine.
The clinical focus is on cardiovascular and respiratory implants. BioTex is significantly involved in the development of innovative cell carrier systems (scaffolds) to enable vascularization and optimal nutrition in complex tissues constructs. In addition, the group works intensively on the development of specific bioreactor systems for the physiological stimulation of tissue-engineered tissues during the in vitro maturation phase.

Dr. Anja Lena Thiebes was awarded with the 2. Place of the Research Prize of the West German Respiratory Society.
